Google's Content Policy — Based on Google's Business Profile Help

What Google Will — and Will Not — Remove

Only reviews that violate Google's content policies are removed. Understanding this distinction before investing time in reporting is essential. Check Google's current policy

Google will review (and may remove)

  • Spam and fake content (e.g. reviews posted by a bot or a fake account)
  • Off-topic content that does not relate to an actual customer experience
  • Restricted content (illegal content, adult content, dangerous goods)
  • Terrorist content or content promoting violence
  • Sexually explicit content
  • Hate speech targeting protected groups
  • Harassment, bullying or threats directed at a person
  • Personal and confidential information (e.g. payment details, national ID)
  • Impersonation of another person or business
  • Conflict-of-interest reviews (e.g. reviews by current or former employees about their own employer)

Google will not remove

  • A review you simply dislike or disagree with — Google is explicit: do not report a review just because you dislike it
  • A genuine negative customer experience, even if you believe it is unfair
  • A low star rating with no written content, if it appears genuine
  • An anonymous review, on its own, without a separate policy violation
  • A review in a dispute between a business and a customer — Google says it does not get involved

Google says it does not get involved in disputes between businesses and customers. A review you believe is unfair but that does not violate a specific policy will stay up. Check Google's current policy

What We Actually Do

Our Review Removal Process — 6 Steps

A methodical process through Google's official reporting and appeal channels. Nothing beyond what Google sanctions. Nothing guaranteed.

01

Profile and review audit

We examine your Google Business Profile and each review you are concerned about: star rating, reviewer account age, review content and history. We document the full picture before any action.

What we need from you: your GBP profile link and links to the specific reviews.

02

Policy check for each review

We compare each review against Google's content policies to determine whether a genuine violation exists. Only reviews with a realistic policy basis are taken forward — we will tell you clearly if a review does not qualify.

Outcome: a written assessment of which reviews can be reported and on what grounds.

03

Evidence pack

Where evidence strengthens the report (e.g. proof of a fake account, screenshots of a coordinated attack, screenshots showing the reviewer was never a customer), we gather and organise it before filing.

What we need from you: any evidence you already hold — screenshots, records, correspondence.

04

Report through Google Business Profile or the Reviews Management Tool

Reports are submitted through the official channel Google specifies — either directly from the GBP dashboard or via the Reviews Management Tool, with the correct reason selected. Google typically takes several days to evaluate a report; status can show 'Decision pending', 'Report reviewed — no policy violation' or 'Escalated'.

We handle the filing; you do not need to do anything at this step.

05

One-time appeal where it makes sense

If Google rejects a report and we believe the grounds are solid, we file the one-time appeal that Google allows (for up to 10 reviews at once). We do not appeal weak cases — a rejected appeal closes that route permanently.

Outcome: maximum pressure through legitimate channels before the route closes.

06

Monitoring

After reporting, we track the status of filed reports and keep you updated on decisions. If new policy-violating reviews appear, we repeat the process. We also watch for extortion patterns — reviews posted to pressure a payment — which can be reported through a separate Google process.

What we need from you: continued access to the GBP dashboard or regular status updates from your side.

Our Ethics, Stated PlainlyThe Other Half of the Work

If a Review Cannot Be Removed

Most businesses have both removable and non-removable negative reviews. The reviews that stay up need a different strategy — and often that strategy delivers more durable results than removal would have anyway.

This is the part many agencies skip. We cover it because it is the honest answer to a large share of the questions our clients bring to us.

Write a professional reply

A calm, factual response to a genuine complaint shows future customers your standards. It also reduces the emotional weight of the review. We draft replies that acknowledge the concern without admitting liability and invite the customer to resolve the issue offline.

Grow genuine new reviews

More recent positive reviews push a negative review down visually and dilute its impact on your average rating. We set up ethical, policy-compliant review request campaigns — SMS or email sent after a service or purchase — that encourage real customers to share their experience. We never ask only happy customers (that is review gating, which violates Google policy).

Fix the underlying cause

If a recurring complaint points to a real service gap — delivery delays, billing confusion, staff behaviour — fixing the root cause is the most durable reputation move. We can help you identify patterns in review text.

Take legal advice for defamation or extortion

If a review contains false statements of fact that are causing measurable harm, that may be a legal matter. We are not a law firm and cannot advise on defamation. We recommend consulting a lawyer if you believe a review is actionable. Google separately allows reporting of extortion scams involving negative reviews through a dedicated process — we can assist with that filing.

Google Business Profile Optimisation

GMB SEO: Improving Your Google Business Profile

Google Business Profile optimization — also searched as GMB SEO — improves your visibility on Google Maps and in the Local 3-Pack results for searches like “dentist in Dwarka” or “best restaurant near me Delhi”. Reviews are one signal; the profile itself is another ten.

Primary and secondary categories

The primary category is the single most important field in your Google Business Profile. We research which category your top-ranking local competitors use and which drives the most relevant search visibility for your business type in your city.

Services and products

The Services and Products sections let Google understand exactly what you offer. Populated correctly, they appear in profile panels and improve match rates for high-intent local searches — especially in Delhi NCR where competition for local terms is high.

Attributes

Attributes (wheelchair accessible, women-led, open 24 hours, outdoor seating, etc.) appear directly in search results and filter searches on Google Maps. The right attributes improve click-through from relevant searchers.

Photos and videos

Profiles with regularly updated photos generate more direction requests and website clicks. We audit your current photo quality, flag low-quality images, and set a posting cadence. We do not upload stock photos — only real images of your premises, team or product.

Google Posts

Weekly or fortnightly posts (offers, events, news) signal to Google that the profile is actively managed and give searchers a reason to click. We plan, write and schedule posts aligned with your business calendar.

Q&A

The Q&A section on your profile is indexed by Google. Unanswered questions leave a poor impression; incorrect answers from the public can damage trust. We seed useful questions with accurate answers and monitor for public additions.

Citations and NAP consistency

Name, Address and Phone number must be identical across your GBP, website, Justdial, Sulekha, IndiaMart, and other directories. Inconsistencies reduce Google's confidence in your business data and suppress local rankings. We audit and correct NAP across key Indian and global directories. See our full local SEO programme at Local SEO Services.

Local landing page and LocalBusiness schema

A dedicated page on your website for each service area, marked up with LocalBusiness or Service schema, reinforces your GBP authority. We implement schema server-side so it is visible in raw HTML and readable by Google's crawlers.

Review replies

Responding to every review — positive and negative — is a ranking signal and a trust signal. We draft and publish replies in your brand voice, using natural language that includes service keywords without keyword-stuffing.

Call and click tracking, Maps ranking monitoring

We set up call tracking and UTM parameters to measure how many leads come directly from your GBP, and track your Maps ranking for target keywords monthly — showing movement over time, not just a snapshot.

GMB SEO is one part of the broader local SEO picture.

Our Ethics, Stated Plainly

What We Never Do

The tactics below are used by some services in the review removal market. They can get a Google Business Profile suspended, which is far more damaging than any single negative review. We do not use them.

If a competitor offers guaranteed removal of any review or claims to have a contact inside Google, those are warning signs. Google does not provide removal services through third parties.

Buy or write fake reviews

Posting fake reviews violates Google's policies and the Consumer Protection Act. Google's automated systems detect patterns of fake reviews and can suspend the profile.

Use bots or mass fake reports

Filing mass reports without genuine policy grounds is abuse of Google's reporting system. Google ignores bulk low-quality reports and can flag the reporter.

Pay reviewers

Incentivising reviews with cash, discounts or gifts violates Google's policy and consumer protection regulations in India.

Review gating

Only asking happy customers to leave reviews (and steering unhappy customers away from public platforms) is explicitly against Google's guidelines. We send review requests to all customers.

Guarantee removal

No legitimate service can guarantee that Google will remove a specific review. Google makes that decision independently. Anyone who guarantees removal is either misleading you or using methods that put your profile at risk.
